niscat foobar.org_dir: NIS+ servers unreachable

I've seen this with a pc connected to an (oldish) network switch.
Linux enables the NIC on startup, the switch churns and grinds as it
negociates the connection, meanwhile autofs has come and gone before
a connection is made.
