It would be great to have such an option. Cheap NAS devices are becoming 
more and more popular. They often run Linux/Samba (like Level One FNS-1000
or Linksys NSLU2) and there is no option to keep uids in sync
or to use an LDAP authorization.

On the other hand just to disable the extensions on the client is also 
not the best solution as too much functionality is lost that is very 
useful to Linux users.

An option like "override extensions" could make uid and gid work as 
they did for smbfs.
