[jcifs] unable to fetch workgroups in current netbios domain under winxp

hello there

i am trying to get a list of all available workgroups under netbios
domain. no winsserver in my network.
when using  "smb://" the only thing recieved is "Unknown host:
..__MSBROWSE__.<01>". 
I run the same code on a wink2k box were it works out fine. 
i can access shares on the mentioned winxp box with querys like
"smb://<server>/<share>/" but it is impossible to get a list of
workinggroups.
my conf is: winxp(sp1), java 1.4.2, jcifs 0.7.11
i have a pppoe connection on the xp box and have connection sharing
activated.
