Can you try -j8 as well? You basically have 4 CPUs, and the sweet spot is 
claimed to be twice the CPUs available.
Actually, this is the sort of thing that is likely to make Martin Pool happy. 
And he probably needs some more material for his http://linux.conf.au talk on 
distcc....
