I can confirm that our environment was set up this way and worked.  One 
thing you will have to google if you go to AD with unix kerberos is "Cross 
Realm Trust".

I will also say that we consolidated our Kerberos KCD to just using the AD 
servers as KDCs.  With some hickups, it works passably.
