[Samba] win98 passwords problem

dear friends!

i am testing samba.
i have linux samba server and win98 client linked with crossed 
over utp cable.
i have shares with full access and no security options in samba 
on the server. win98 client can see samba server in 'network 
neighborhood' but cannot reach the shares - samba wants 'IPC$ 
password'. WHY???
