OK, this patch looks quite small and harmless, so I am prepared to apply 
it to head to see what happens.

The Amanda folks will have to test it to see if it does what they need. 
When you get back to me that you are willing to do the testing, I will 
apply the patch. My testing will be limited to:

1. Does it build.
2. Does smbclient work against the platforms I have available (which are 
Samba and Win2K).

However, another idea I had was a purpose-built tool for amanda and other 
backup needs. It would not need to be as large as smbclient and might be 
easier to modify for specifically backup behavior.
