Assuming you've logged in to the sarge desktop with a display
manager of some kind, check it's configuration. I think in Sarge
they all default to only accepting local clients (or clients
tunneled over SSH, which look local to the server).

If you're just startx-ing, then... I dunno. Maybe a parameter
to startx.
