[clug] Intel 82801 SATA RAID controller opinions?

Hi
Just remember most SATA RAID controllers aren't actually real hardware
raid controllers. The hardware raid is done through the bios the
controller, which in most cases doesn't do a really good job, i.e. linux
doesn't see it as a mirrored device and you can have all sorts of troubles.
Google-ing around brought me to this conclusion after trying to get two
160GB drives setup as one mirrored device. I just setup it up with lvm
and now have a 300GB (sweet!) partition, not a redundant service though
it's only for play.
I think (from memory) that only one SATA RAID card works under linux, I
don't remember which one, could be yours ! :). It also suggested that
linux software raid is greatly advanced and gives excellect/comparable
performance.
