Emacs' default indentation for C files is also based on an unusual
number of spaces, but we don't use it.  ;-)

I think that if we use tabs for C code then we might as well be
consistent and use the same for shell scripts, given that there's no
competing convention.  If "tabs with left-aligned case labels" is
already what VIM does then we might as well do that.  No use making
everyone tweak editor settings just for the sake of it...
