I've used GnuTLS 3.4.7 and GnuTLS 3.2.15 for development. GnuTLS 3.2 or newer
is at least available in current SLE12 and RHEL7 releases. I see that your
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS offers libgnutls28-dev which is version 3.2.11.
