smbfs/cifs mounts in fstab causing ethernet interface lockups

Two scenarios where this is happening:
2.6.18-164.6.1.el5 -- Centos 5.4 64 bit via rocks
and
2.6.22.5-31-default -- Suse 10.3 64 bit
