Let's just keep a single flat directory layout.
We shouldn't be talking about that many patch files
(less than 50 at most at any given time I expect).

Looks good.  let's just leave the single series file for now.
Once 3.0.21 comes out, we'll deal with updating things for
multiple concurrent "series" files.
