the call stack is about four or five functions deep from the
reply_api_xxx() side.
i can't remember if i removed the cnum, or didn't pass it down the call
stack, because:
- it wasn't used anywhere
- it's in one of the structures (vuser? vuid)
- you can obtain it by doing a lookup on the vuid.
