802.1x is a security mechanism that allows authentication of the user 
against the access point. Most implementations of 802.1x in access 
points allow to keep unauthorized users out of the entire network. Side 
effects are that it is possible to have a frequent change of encryption 
keys.

Maybe the amount of features depend on the implementation by each 
manufaturer, I'm not sure about it.

Activation in this context mean that you can turn the use of 802.1x on 
for the access point, and you can define up to two radius servers that 
should be used during authentication of a 802.1x client. I didn't test 
this feature yet, due to a lack of a matching radius server that can 
handle 802.1x requests (and a lack of time, too :)).
