Of all things, the Microsoft USB adapters use the prism chipset and work
well in linux with the wlan-ng drivers.

I've pulled one apart, and if you're handy with a soldering iron it would
be very easy to remove their builtin antenna and solder a bit of LMR with
a SMA jack onto the board - the builtin whip just uses a strand of LMR
itself.
