Community Wireless Client

Hi,

Since most of us are out to help each other so we can all get the most
out of community wireless networks, I have been wondering if someone has
done something for the client side for people who are a little less
technical.

I was thinking of a Linux or *BSD based small distro or boot CD be made
to act as a wireless client.

The idea is that the CD will have everything you need to connect to a
community wireless network, including the latest stable wireless
drivers, typical network card drivers, basic firewalling and routing,
and the like.

If it boots off CD, it could have a simple fill in the blanks section
for adding IP addresses, perhaps displaying MAC addresses and
recommending that they be provided to the administrator of the local
access point, and any other basic info that needs to be added. This
would also include suitable sanity checking, to ensure the correct
information is added.

Has anyone seen or considered creating something like this?

Regards

Jamie
