problems with Orinoco Silver on a Dell X200 with RedHat 7.3.

I've upgraded pcmcia-cs to 3.1.34, and I've tried to upgrade the
orinoco_cs-driver to 0.11b, but I get some unresolved symbols[1] and
I'd rather like to not have to compile a new kernel for this
machine. there are enough gotchas with it as it is. :)

when I insert the card I get:

cardmgr[764]: socket 0: Lucent Technologies WaveLAN/IEEE Adapter
cardmgr[764]: executing: 'modprobe hermes'
cardmgr[764]: executing: 'modprobe orinoco'
cardmgr[764]: executing: 'modprobe orinoco_cs'
cardmgr[764]: executing: './network start eth1'
/etc/hotplug/net.agent: invoke ifup eth1
kernel: eth1: error -5 reading info frame. Frame dropped.
kernel: eth1: Tx error, status 4 (FID=00BF)
dhcpcd[1769]: recvfrom: Network is down

now, if there are no other solutions I'll look to compiling a new
kernel, but I hoped someone might know what this is beforehand.
there aren't any interrupt-collisions either, the card has IRQ 3 all
on it's own. now, the sending led goes pretty wild when looking for
a DHCP-host, it blinks _very_ rapidly. the other led is just on
constantly, which is normal behavior as far as I know.

if there are any other tidbits of information that can be of help,
  please let me know.
