get list of access point in range

hi,

While looking at different orinoco wlan drivers for linux I never found
an implementation of the SIOCGIWAPLIST ioctl request to get a list of 
APs in range.
(I found it only in one aironet driver [airo.c]..)
Is this feature (?) not available for this card or how come it isn't
implemented in any driver?
