Wireless Troubles....

Hi all,
I have the following:
2x Roamabout (skynet global)802.11 DS High Rate cards
1x PCI-PCMCIA adaptor. (Borrowing another off a friend at the momment so thats 2)

I tried to set them up in windows 2000 to test. It wasn't an easy task because something dodgy is happening and still is. It only transmits if on one of the machines the mouse moves. If it isn't moved it doesn't want to transmit.Got any reasons why??

I then thought it might be the machine, so I get a friend around and we installed one of the cards under win98 on his laptop. another problem happens, when I go into the client setup on the laptop it says the wireless card is working fine and then isn't and it keeps doing this over and over.(doesn't in windows 2000, but windows 2000 has that mouse problem, which i think is related somehow.)

I then thought it might be the wireless card, so i swap them over, so the one which is in the win2k box is now in the laptop and it does the same. I put the one from the laptop in the win2k box and it doesn't come up with that error. The other card in the laptop starts to do the same thing, flahes that it's working and then flahes saying its not the message says something like " The wireless network card is not operational".

I've tried the network cards in a few computers and it has one of these errors.

Can someone sugguest something please. I've spent ages trying to figure it out and I'm lost.
Grant.

I'm going to try upgrade the firmware in the cards, hopefully that might fix it. Or maybe it's just windows?

Could you help me get started with the install of the network card under linux. I've got most distros.
I've got the machines I just don't know where to start. I've read up on things but yea..not sure.

I was looking at installing mandrake or something which is suppose to have PCMCIA installed. Would you recommend that? (I've gotta get my CDs back off my friend on monday, so i can start testing)

At the momment I'm not going to start with the antenna stuff, start a step at a time and get the network cards going then work up bigger.

any stuff/suggestions you may have would be greatly helpful

Thanks
