Problems with ibook, airport card, and netgear ME102 AP

Hi,

I recently bought a Netgear ME102 WAP, to use with my Ibook2 and Airport card.

I previously used the card with other access points without problems, but the
ME102 and I never get talking at all.

First, I know the ME102 is not faulty because I returned the first one to the
dealer because I thought it was and got a new one ;-)

I'm running a 2.14-pre kernel from BenH with the airport, hermes and orinoco
modules.

When I boot I get the following message:

eth1: Station identity 001f:0001:0004:0010
eth1: Looks like a Lucent/Agere firmware version 4.16
eth1: Ad-hoc demo mode supported.
eth1: MAC address 00:30:65:13:9D:C4
eth1: Station name "HERMES I"
eth1: Allowed channels mask: 0x00001fff
eth1: ready
airport: card registered for interface eth1
NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out
eth1: Tx timeout! Resetting card.

And iwconfig says

eth1 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"Wireless" Nickname:"paleface"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.422GHz Access Point: 44:44:44:44:44:44
Bit Rate=2Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm Sensitivity:1/3
Retry limit:4 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality:0/92 Signal level:134/153 Noise level:134/153
Rx invalid nwid:0 invalid crypt:0 invalid misc:0

I've disabled WEP at the AP via the USB utility. I can ping the AP just fine
via normal ethernet. The ESSID for both AP and card is set to 'Wireless'.
I can't modify the channel for the card when in managed mode, but I've tried
most of them at the AP without getting any signal.

Any ideas? (and is this the correct list to ask at all?)

Thanks in advance, I'm totally lost

Jacob
