you can download the firmware and build an AP. Basically you need to create
a BSD box and install the outdoor router utility on it.. then you will need
a separate (pref windows) box to manage it.

You could run the Linux box as a masquerading gateway or a router.  What
I've found you can't do is have the Linux box act as a transparent bridge
as the wireless cards don't appear to play nicely.

Think of the wireless card as your "phone line" and then look at the IP
Masq HOW-TOs.
