I also have an XPpro and a Sarge Debian. I believe if one doesn't explicitly
specify a user and a password, smbclient uses by default the currently logged
in user and password. BTW: I solved all such problems by creating the same user
and password both on Linux box and XP computer. And also added the user and
pass with smbpasswd.
