URGENT: XP and linux problem, "unable to open passdb database"

HI,
 
1. Can you check whether you have a file by name smbpasswd at /etc/samba/. If you do not have then create one while logging into the machine as root user. Then add root as the user for samba for example. It will prompt for password, enter the desired password.
host> smbpasswd -a root
 
2. See if you have anything in the file /etc/samba/smbpasswd, if not then add the root as the user name for samba. It will prompt for password, enter the desired password.
host> smbpasswd -a root
 
3. See if your user name and is an entry in the file smbpasswd file. If not add userself as the user. Enter the desired password. 
host> smbpasswd -a pradeep
 
4. May be you restart the samba service on linux machine.
> service smb restart
