In order to do this, you would require either an SMB client (such as
Thursby's Dave) on the Mac, or the netatalk service on the server. Macintosh
pre-OSX doesn't do SMB without a system add-on.

Subject: How to connect a Mac on a Samba Server

Hi,

I try to authentifiate a Mac OS8.5.1 on a Samba SME 5.6 Server. When I
try to do this, he said that he can't find the authentification of the
users on the server.

Can anyone help me ?

Thank,
