no access from win98clients to suselinux7.2 with samba2.2

Add this to your /smb.co0nf file
   encrypt passwords = yes
   smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd

then do
smbpasswd -a username

make up the password for the username

log in from the windows box and use the username and password set that
you wrote to the smb.conf file.
