[Samba] Macs deleting files off RHEL8 server

Not really weird.....
I have seen people drag whole folders, or alias into other folders due to sloppy mouse or KB control
Since the files are not actually moved, just the folder pointers are updated, it can happen very fast.
But that would indicate, that the rights are not set correctly, remember that rights flow downwards.
So really , only "Admin" should have the ability to move/delete folders, all the way down from the top of the tree.
I have seen problems when the file tree is poorly defined for access rights, where people have tried to cross link rights to other folders, or give individuals access inside shared folders.
But then the mess it up and give full rights at a higher level , which then trickle down.
A mac should not be able to delete folders, if the Admin right is set correctly

Understood.
A very weird situation just happened. A user was deleting a folder
containing 1 InDesign file.
When the process started, it said it was deleting 1000s of files. She
immediately stopped the delete process from her Mac and opened the folder
and saw what looked like all of the folders from our server. When I looked
at that same folder from my computer I didn't see that, I only saw the
InDesign file.
Since that incident it looks like I may have lost 2 folders from the
server. When I checked this morning there were 223. Now there's 221.
Unmounting and remounting the share on the Mac resolved that situation.
I've sent the logs to RH to see if they can find anything.
Unfortunately, we get files with all sorts of diacritics, as well as kanji.
Kind regards.

Generally,
it is the kiss of death to try and work on remote files. (edit)
all sorts of random locking & corruption can occur.
Even before you take into account "case sensitivity"
One other issue that is a killer is "diacritic's" ........
Even up until very recently MS windows could NOT distinguish between some
German characters with diacritic's and normal alphabet.
I presume you are not using Chinese, because that is even worse.
