Not sure I fully understand this, surely if you are going to install a
64bit version of Samba, it will be on a 64bit OS ?

All you need to do is backup the data and the smb.conf on a Unix domain
member, install the new 64bit OS, install the Samba packages, replace
the smb.conf with your backed up copy, restore the data and away you go.
