As winbind is the bridge between smbd and AD, no, you should not run
winbind on a standalone server.

However, if the standalone server is being accessed by members of a
domain, then, in my opinion, it shouldn't be a standalone server, it
should be a Unix domain member (easier to mange, all users and groups
in one place) and then you will need winbind.
