[Samba] access windows server: change password at first time

Never had this before and my googling doesn't help so far:

I was asked to set up some backup routine to dump a share that is hosted 
on a windows server.

The customer set a passwd for my user and the flag "has to change 
password at first login" (or like that).

Accessing the share via smbclient doesn't let me change that password.

Now I tried to log in to that server via RDP to maybe change the pwd, no 
success.

Would accessing the share via windows file explorer help here?

(if yes, I have to come up with matching ssh-portforwarding, currently I 
don't have full VPN access)
