I find that just defining your AD domain, and using it only for Windows
workstations to be extremely easier.
Have your ad.mydomain.example controlled by Samba and then setup your
preferred DNS to manage your www.mydomain.example,
imap.mydomain.example,smtp.mydomain.example, etc.etc. and just forward
ad.mydomain.example to Samba. I just use that and never ever had to
touch the Samba DNS with its CLI admin tools or Windows DNS admin GUI.
Set all your Windows machines to use the full DNS, no need to have to
setup forwarders on Samba, let it only know about the Samba managed domains.
