OK, I have found where the messages are coming from on 4.17.6, but there 
appear to have been changes in 4.18.0 which make it harder to fix (for 
me anyway), they now seem to be coming from the 'C' code.

With the older python, I can stop the messages (at least to prove where 
they are coming from), but I have no idea how to stop the 'C' code 
printing them.
