Since I don't know what to look for, I'd be very appreciative about any
specific pointers.
The only prevalent message in the logs is that it is unable to resolve SID's,
which is, to my naive understanding, is highly confusing, since these are
Samba's own SID's, and LDAP is up and running like nothing happened.

Which looks identical comparing to sam.ldb from DC1 backup.

The problem is, I followed the standard operation to the letter, and get the
results that are far from understandable.
Either the wiki is lacking necessary steps to perform, or setup is somewhat
off.
You said you see no suspicious settings, so I presume the setup is okay at
least on the first glance.
So, are the wiki off by a mile then? What is the exact procedure to demote the
PDC?
How can I confirm that there are no traces back to the old DC left in the
database?
I'm not demanding fast answers, mind you, all I need ATM is some help with
diagnostics. Some specific help, not just a "look in the logs" kind.
