This is exactly what I had in mind when suggesting to "upgrade" to
a current version. My wording was definitely unclear, because
"upgrade" does not mean installing new thing alongside of the old one.
This is a standard "upgrade *path*" to go forward from an old DC setup, -
to install current version in a new system and replace old one with the
newly installed, like 'out-of-place upgrade' - that's why I (incorrectly)
used this word without much context.

This is a standard and recommended procedure. It is safer and
more stright-forward than in-place upgrade.
