I tend to use 'ssh username at whatever_the computers_short_hostname_is'
e.g. ssh rowland at rpidc1

Stop me if I am wrong, but you previously posted that 'HOME' was the 
NetBIOS domain name (or so I thought), but now it appears to be a 
computers short hostname.
