Dear all

I was given the job to upgrade samba-ad-4.10.13 to the latest version 4.15.7 (samba+), i.e. the DC functionality and no file server. This is running on a bare-metal RHEL7 server and it is the only DC. I was not told why this installation was not kept up-to-date. I've read through all release notes samba-4.x.0 and it seems that only samba-ad-4.11.0 has some major changes for existing DC functionality: changed how the AD database is stored on disk, default AD schema changed from 2008_R2 to 2012_R2. dbcheck does not show any errors and online/offline DC backup work without issues.

I'm not sure how to plan the in-place upgrade process. Can I directly jump from samba-ad-4.10.13 to samba-ad-4.15.7? Or do I need first to upgrade to 4.11.17 and then jump to 4.15.7? Or do I need to upgrade from major release to major release? Looking at the wiki page "Upgrading a Samba AD DC" it seems to be ok to jump from 4.4.4 to 4.6.2 (released March 31, 2017) in one go. But does this also apply to upgrading from 4.10.13 to 4.15.7 (released April 26, 2022)? Thank you very much for any advise on this topic.

Regards,

Marc
