[Samba] Linux Mint's Samba

Since the latest version of Samba on my Linux Mint box, I am only 
allowed to refer to each networked computer by their IP addresses. 
Network names don't work.

Is this a problem caused by the packages of LM, or is this the "gold 
standard" that the general Samba software, or caja-share (used with the 
Caja file manager) will concentrate from now on?
