You will only need to restore an AD domain if something catastrophic 
occurs that affects all your DC's and you need to rebuild the domain. 
Samba also provides the tool to do this:

samba-tool domain backup restore

This will get your domain running again on one DC, pretty much like when 
a domain is provisioned, but with the data from original domain (at the 
time the last backup was carried out)
