I'm not sure what this means. This would allow for desktop configuration 
of gnome DE systems from the DC through Group Policies, similar to what 
you can do for Windows workstations?

Given that the gnome project likes to change things up with every 
release, that seems like an unrealistic goal. But maybe some FreeDesktop 
(freedesktop.org) conventions could be templated for GPO?  Pure 
speculation that this makes sense or is realistic.
