Sadly the Samba Team has no control over what versions LTS
Distributions ship, but almost by definition they are old.

However users do have the choice of which LTS to deploy, and at least

    focal-updates (net): SMB/CIFS file, print, and login server for
Unix
    2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.8: amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x

is not quite so old.
