I think we really need to see the output of this:
See "systemctl status winbind.service" and "journalctl -xe" for
details.

This is working for me in my nightly testing.
CTDB launches winbindd from the 49.winbind event script and smbd from
50.samba event script. When enabled these will be linked from
/etc/ctdb/events/legacy/. These don't tend to contain any magic, so the
failure must be something to do with configuration or environment.
