Why do synology still use smbpasswd ?

Also, if 'syno sync dctime' does what it sounds like i.e. sync time from 
the DC, then this could be something to look at, is the time on the NAS, 
the same as on the DC ?

Quite a lot of those are Samba defaults, but with synology, who knows ?

I suggest you follow the advice Ralph gave, contact synology.
