apt-get dist-upgrade -dy
apt-get dist-upgrade -y --autoremove --purge

No problems seen here.

Prepair it, take the time and clean up old packages after.
Check for example : dpkg -l |egrep "deb[7-9]|wheezy|jessie|stretch"
