This is less of an issue on Netgate SG-3100 device which comes with a 
built-in 4 x 1 Gbps port semi-smart switch and 2.5 Gbps uplink.
I can recommend it for a small / mid size set up.
Otherwise I agree with the suggestion and switching my attention to 
isc-dhcp-server :)
