Please tell me that .local  is sanitization, but if it isn't, try this:

apt-get purge avahi-deamon

Can you post the following files:

/etc/resolv.conf

/etc/hostname

/etc/hosts

Also try restarting Samba, this should run samba_dnsupdate and hopefully 
fill in any missing dns entries.
