I can only think that Windows, for some reason, doesn't like your 
sharename 'groups', as the sharename should be what you connect to i.e 
//myserver/groups. This explains why your other share is //myserver/homes

Now talking about 'homes', yours is set up incorrectly ;-)

It should be:

[homes]
     comment = Home Directories
     read only = No
     create mask = 0700
     directory mask = 0700
     valid users = %S
     hide files = /~*.tmp/profile/desktop.ini/~$*/
     browseable = no

Either ensure your users have 'unixHomeDirectory: /home/USERNAME' in 
their AD object, or set 'template homedir = /home/%U' in the [global] 
section of your smb.conf

Your users will then be able to connect //myserver/USERNAME
