That is a possibility, but the main problem with building Samba
yourself via ./configure etc, is that it doesn't integrate with
anything on the Distro. Ideally you would remove any distro Samba
packages, but this normally wants to remove a lot of other packages as
well, even more if you are running a GUI.

That is one reason why I suggested switching distro.
