We English have a saying 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do', in your
case you have more Windows machines than Unix machines and what Unix
machines you do have, are running mostly in the same way as a Windows
machine.
In any case, Windows ACL's are more extensive than Unix ACL's.
With the latter, you have one user and one group and then 'others' and
the 'others' all get the same permissions, whilst with Windows ACL's
you can have numerous users & groups, all with different permissions.
