Forget 'systemctl reload'
Forget 'killall'
Forget 'pkill'

> > smbcontrol smbd reload-config

This is the one that should work, this should make smbd reload smb.conf
You could try 'smbcontrol all reload-config'
You should also note, that this will probably need to be run by root or
with sudo.

If it still doesn't work, try raising the log level and see if anything
pops out.
