The problem as I see it is:

The OP set up a DC using Samba 4.5.12 and is now trying to get XP to
map a share at logon and this doesn't work, but it does for later
Windows versions.

He also says there is nothing in any of the logs, this could mean that
the GPO isn't being run.

There are two problems with what he is trying to do, 4.5.12 is EOL as
far as Samba is concerned, if there is a bug in Samba, it might have
been fixed in a later version. The other problem is XP, this went EOL 4
years ago and, officially, hasn't had any updates since then, I am not
sure if this includes ant-virus software, so bearing all this in mind,
should we be helping the OP shoot himself in the foot ??

He might say 'well, my customers do not want to upgrade XP', but I
know (no matter what he says to his customers) that when it does go
wrong, he will be blamed. He needs to tell his customers, 'you MUST
upgrade Windows' or walk away, it will be cheaper in the long run.
